OTTWAY launches local-currency gift cards across Shopify Markets, powered by Giftnote

MELBOURNE: OTTWAY, the Melbourne clothing label known for unisex, vintage-inspired pieces made in small batches, has launched gift vouchers that issue in each customer's local currency across Shopify Markets.

The programme is powered by Giftnote, the gifting platform used by more than a thousand Shopify brands, which also delivers gift messages on OTTWAY's physical orders.

A label that feels like a community

OTTWAY was founded in 2018 by Neri and Manu and named for the Otway Ranges on Victoria's coast. The brand describes itself as "a community rather than just a clothing brand", with a mantra printed on its own tees: LIFE IS FOR LIVING.

The clothing is "cross-seasonal, trendless" and made to last, produced in small batches and restocked on demand as a deliberate move away from fast fashion. With every purchase, OTTWAY donates funds towards installing solar power.

Gift vouchers that hold their value anywhere

OTTWAY's customers aren't only in Australia. The store sells into more than seventy countries in their own currencies, from New Zealand dollars and pounds to US dollars, euros and yen.

For an international customer, a gift voucher used to be the one product that didn't quite behave. Shopify issued every gift card in the store's base currency, so a customer paying in another currency was really buying Australian dollars, and the balance their recipient saw moved with the exchange rate between the day it was bought and the day it was spent.

Shopify introduced local-currency gift cards in June 2026, and Giftnote added support in August. OTTWAY's store is now live with it: an international customer's gift voucher is issued in the currency they paid in, and stays that amount until it's spent.

Gift messages on every physical order

Gift vouchers are only half of how OTTWAY customers give the brand. On every product page, a Sending as a gift? button sits above Add to Cart. The customer writes a personal message and chooses when it goes out: on delivery, straight away or on a date they pick, by email and SMS.

That's a meaningful detail for a label whose pieces are so often bought for someone else. The gift arrives with the words that go with it, and the recipient is introduced to OTTWAY directly, not just through a parcel.
