Kirstin Ash launches local-currency gift cards across Shopify Markets, powered by Giftnote

The Sydney jewellery brand has brought its regional stores together on Shopify Markets and taken its gifting programme with it, with gift cards issued in each customer's own currency and every gift order split into gifter and recipient in Klaviyo.

The Challenge

Consolidating regional storefronts into one Shopify Markets store meant gift cards had to work in every currency from a single product, without disrupting a gifting programme that runs digital gift cards, gift messages and Klaviyo flows at peak volume.

The Solution

Giftnote gift cards issued in the customer's local currency from one product across every market, set up with Refresh The Web, alongside Giftnote gift messages on physical orders and a Klaviyo integration that separates gifters from recipients.

SYDNEY: Kirstin Ash, the independent Australian jewellery brand known for its pared-back designer pieces, has launched gift cards that issue in each customer's local currency across Shopify Markets, following the consolidation of its regional storefronts into a single store.

The programme is powered by Giftnote, the gifting platform used by more than a thousand Shopify brands, and the gift card setup for Markets was implemented with the brand's web partner Refresh The Web.

A brand people buy for someone else

Kirstin Ash was founded in 2008 by siblings Kirstin and Nick Ash, who grew up in New Zealand and now run the business from Sydney. Every piece is designed in-house by Kirstin, in a signature style the brand describes as "elevated effortlessness".

The collection is built around what Kirstin Ash calls "effortless essentials, personalised keepsakes and statement pieces": the Everlast Diamonds range, the Vale Tennis capsule, Ember, Unfold, Luminous and, most recently, Resonate.

Jewellery is one of the most gifted categories there is, and it's an unusually personal one. A necklace or a pair of earrings is chosen for a specific person and a specific moment: a birthday, an anniversary, Mother's Day, Christmas morning. Kirstin Ash's personalised keepsakes and birthstone pieces are made for exactly that.

The range

The brand's Gift Shop spans every kind of occasion and budget:

  • Place Ring: $159
  • Birthstone Necklace: $189
  • Roam T-Bar Necklace: $259
  • Mondo Necklace: $369
  • The Pearl Gift Set, 18k gold plated with complimentary signature gift wrap: $388
  • Vale Tennis Bracelet: $449

For the moments when a gifter isn't sure which piece, the Kirstin Ash E-Gift Card, from $50 to $1,000, lets the recipient choose.

One store, every market, the right currency

This year Kirstin Ash brought its regional storefronts together into a single Shopify store, selling to Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Europe through Shopify Markets.

For most of the catalogue, that's a pricing exercise. For gift cards, it used to be a genuine problem. Shopify issued every gift card in the store's base currency, so a card bought in New Zealand dollars was issued in Australian dollars, and its value drifted with the exchange rate until the recipient spent it.

That changed in June 2026, when Shopify introduced local-currency gift cards. Giftnote added support in August, and Kirstin Ash's consolidated store was among the first live Markets stores it was confirmed on.

A gift card bought in New Zealand dollars is now a gift card in New Zealand dollars. The same E-Gift Card sells in pounds in the UK and US dollars in the US, from one product.

Giftnote POV

A gift card is a promise about an amount. When a brand consolidates its markets, that promise has to hold in every currency it trades in, or the most-gifted product in the catalogue becomes the one that needs an explanation.

Built with Refresh The Web

Refresh The Web, which looks after the Kirstin Ash website, chose to keep a single gift card product across every market rather than splitting it by region. That keeps one product to merchandise, one set of denominations and one destination for every gifting campaign.

The currency also flows through to Giftnote's Klaviyo events, so the gift card email a recipient receives shows the amount in the currency that was paid.

Gift messages on the jewellery itself

Gift cards are only part of the programme. Kirstin Ash also uses Giftnote for gift messages on physical orders. A customer buying a piece for someone else adds a personal message from the bag before checkout, alongside the brand's gift wrapping, and the message reaches the recipient with the gift.

Knowing who the gift was actually for

This is where gifting quietly changes a brand's marketing.

Jewellery gifts are very often bought by someone who will never wear them: a partner buying a necklace for an anniversary, a son buying earrings for Mother's Day. On a normal Shopify store, that order looks identical to a customer buying for themselves.

So the buyer gets remarketed as if they wore the piece. The man who bought his partner a pair of earrings in December is shown more earrings in January, for himself.

Through Giftnote's Klaviyo integration, every gift order arrives split into its two real people:

  • The gifter: the person who paid, recognised as someone who buys Kirstin Ash as a gift. They can be marketed around gifting occasions rather than served pieces they were never going to wear.
  • The recipient: the person who actually wears the piece, captured as their own contact when the gift arrives, and often someone who has never bought from the brand before.

The result is marketing that matches the person. Less spend retargeting gifters with products that aren't for them, and a new audience of recipients who have already held the brand in their hands.

Frequently asked questions

Does Kirstin Ash sell gift cards?

Yes. Kirstin Ash offers an E-Gift Card from $50 to $1,000 at kirstinash.com/products/egift-card, issued in the customer's local currency and redeemable across the range.

Can you buy a Kirstin Ash gift card in New Zealand dollars?

Yes. Kirstin Ash sells to New Zealand, the UK, the US and Europe from one Shopify store, and its gift cards are issued in the currency the customer pays in, so a card bought in New Zealand dollars holds its value in New Zealand dollars.

Do Shopify gift cards work across multiple currencies?

Yes. Shopify introduced local-currency gift cards in June 2026 and Giftnote added support in August 2026, so a single gift card product can sell and issue in each market's currency.

How do jewellery brands stop remarketing to people who bought a gift?

By separating gifters from recipients at the moment of the order. Giftnote's Klaviyo integration records the person who paid and the person who received the gift as different contacts, so gifters can be marketed around gifting occasions and recipients enter as a new audience.

What is the best gift card app for a Shopify Markets store?

Giftnote issues gift cards in the customer's local currency across all markets from a single product, with branded delivery, scheduled sending, gift messages on physical orders and recipient capture into Klaviyo. Read more about multi-currency gift cards for Shopify Markets.
