Giftnote has earned Shopify's Built for Shopify status. Here's what the badge means, what Shopify checks before an app earns it, and what it means for the stores that use Giftnote.

We're proud of it. But a badge only matters if it means something for the stores that use the app, so here's what it took, and what it means for you.
What Built for Shopify is
There are thousands of apps for Shopify stores. Built for Shopify is how Shopify marks out the ones merchants can trust their business with.
To earn it, an app has to meet a set of criteria that Shopify publishes for developers, then pass a review by Shopify's app review team. Shopify reviews every Built for Shopify app again each year, and an app that stops meeting the standard loses the status.
Once an app earns it, the badge appears on its App Store listing and on its app card in search results and category pages. Merchants can also filter their App Store searches to show only Built for Shopify apps.

What Shopify checks
The criteria fall into three groups. Each one is something you'd notice in your own store, not just in a developer's dashboard.
Fast
Shopify sets hard limits on speed. A Built for Shopify app must not lower a store's Lighthouse performance score by more than ten points, and its screens in the Shopify admin have to load and respond within Shopify's targets.
That matters because a fast store keeps shoppers browsing, and fewer carts get abandoned. You get to focus on selling, not on working out what slowed the site down.
Easy to use
Built for Shopify apps follow Shopify's own design patterns, guide you through setup, and keep their main workflows inside the Shopify admin. Less time learning an app means more time getting value from it.
Well integrated
Apps are expected to work with Shopify's own tools rather than around them: embedded in your admin, ready to use straight after install with no second sign-up, and with the settings for any outside connection kept inside Shopify.
What it means if you use Giftnote
For stores on Giftnote, Built for Shopify confirms how Giftnote already works:
- Gift messages without the printer. Shoppers add a gift message at product, cart or checkout, and Giftnote sends it by branded SMS or email when the parcel is delivered or ships. There's nothing to print, and it works with any 3PL.
- Gift cards and store credit that reach the right person. They go to the gift recipient, not back to the buyer.
- Corporate gifting in one checkout. Corporate buyers send to many addresses in a single order, from a branded storefront.
- Part of the Shopify tools you already use. Giftnote works with Shopify Checkout, customer accounts, Shopify Flow and the Shopify admin, and gift recipients sync to Klaviyo so you can market to them.
A partnership with Shopify
Giftnote has been on the Shopify App Store since March 2022. More than 1,000 Shopify stores have installed it. Built for Shopify is Shopify's recognition that Giftnote is built the way Shopify wants apps built: fast, simple to run, and part of the platform rather than bolted on.
