New Improvements To How You Automate & Send Gift Cards/Vouchers On Your Shopify Store

by
Courtney Goudswaard

This is Shopify’s native Gift Voucher feature — an unstyled gift note enclosed in an email. As the purchaser, this email needs to be forwarded to the gift recipient.

It’s the standard experience for buying gift vouchers/cards on a Shopify store. The problem? This online gifting experience lacks personalisation and it’s clunky.

Giftnote uses the Shopify Gift Card API to natively generate new gift voucher codes that are embedded with your customers personalized gift message, sent directly to the recipient.

This is about setting up your store with an online gifting experience that allows for deeper personalisation and improving your gifting revenue stream.

Here is how the feature works from a gifting and recipient experience to how it integrates with your Shopify store:

1. The Gift Buyer & Recipient Experience

Gift vouchers are a great way to give someone the freedom to buy whatever they like from their favorite store. Despite this, they are often met with criticism saying they are an impersonal way of gifting. Using Giftnote, the gift buyer is able to accompany the gift card with a personalized gift message.

Our Gift Message Modal captures the Gift Card message on the product or cart page.

2. Personalized Gift Voucher Message at Checkout

The app integrates with Shopify’s checkout, giving your customers the same streamlined experience they are used to. It works like any other product on the Shopify store. However with this feature, once they add to cart, they receive a pop-up inviting them to personalize the message that accompanies the voucher.

Perfect for birthdays, other special occasions, and corporate gifting. For the latter, your customers can repeat the process with different personalized messages for each corporate giftee in one checkout transaction from the same store. And voila!

3. Check Voucher Balance

If a customer doesn’t spend their gift voucher in one transaction, they can use Giftnote’s voucher balance widget to check their remaining balance. This self-service feature cuts down the admin time your team may normally spend on fielding a question like this.

4. The Store Admin Experience

Giftnote opens a direct line of communication with your real customers and encourages engagement with your brand.

Once an order is placed, it will populate in your Giftnote app admin. You’ll be able to see the credit assigned to each voucher and these details will integrate with your Shopify dashboard enabling you to manage everything from there.

5. Customize Your Gift Card Notifications

In the notifications tab, you can customize your SMS and Email notifications with your own branding and style.
Also worth noting — the Giftnote app integrates with Klaviyo.

So for Klaviyo customers:

  1. This gives you more control over the look and feel of the design
  2. You can control the metrics of when you’re sending
  3. You’re able to customize any follow-up nurture sequence
  4. Be able to segment giftees and gift recipients
6. Grow Your Subscribers

In case you missed it in the personalized email example — you can use this as an opportunity to invite the giftee to subscribe to your newsletter with a discount or incentive.

Once they subscribe you can then segment your Klaviyo list to send targeted campaigns or flows.

7. Issue Store Credit

You have the ability to manually create gift vouchers or issue store credits. This can be useful for scenarios where an order is delayed and you’d like to compensate the customer. Similarly, if the goods were damaged in transit and you want to avoid facilitating an exchange.

You’re able to assign the voucher or store credit to the customer in your database and send the voucher directly to their email or via text message.

8. Unique Pricing Based on Usage

Pricing is simple. Instead of paying based on average order amounts, you pay a set price of $1 per Giftnote or Voucher — making it a lot more affordable and scalable.
